Penance

Penance

I want you to make a list of at least ten things you are grateful for.

It will help put things into perspective.

This is the order in which I thought of things.

  1. My Students
  2. Physical Activity
  3. Dogs
  4. Music
  5. Prayer
  6. Nature
  7. The Arts
  8. Books
  9. New Days
  10. Laughter

It’s not like I haven’t practiced gratitude before. I have a whole gratitude journal. It’s that, when everything goes dark, I forget that gratitude is a light. I did need some perspective.

  1. Perspective
  2. People – The ones I love and the ones I don’t even know.
  3. My Five Senses
  4. Possibility
  5. Cheese

I don’t even know what happened to the last month of my life. It’s like I blinked and watched everything I’ve known for the last three years come to an end. Even though I planned the ending, it didn’t change the pain and sadness of it all.

  1. Hope
  2. Love
  3. Dreams
  4. Beliefs
  5. Breaths

This next journey makes zero sense to me – which is why I suppose I found my way to my keyboard tonight in the midst of going through stuff in preparation for the move.

  1. The Unknown

Seems odd to be grateful for the things we can’t understand, but my great blessings have come from diving into the unknown. I hope this time is no different.
