Movement
Daily writing prompt
How often do you walk or run?

One of the things that I got marked down on during my first teaching observation was not circulating the room enough. I was like a statue glued to the front whiteboard because I was still learning how to even speak to my classes, let alone be proactive in moving around the room and giving feedback.

Movement, though, is the key to so many aspects of our life.

An object in motion stays in motion. It’s science. It’s also faith.

I spent many years lacking movement in the physical and spiritual realm, so I quickly became stuck. Stuck in bad habits. Routines that didn’t serve any greater purpose. Relationships with people who drained me of who I was and meant to be.

Movement is necessary in all aspects of our life, which is why I spend so much time walking now. I pace my classroom throughout every lesson, every period. I walk and hike regularly. I walk the dogs. I walk and pray and pray and walk.

I don’t run though.

I wish I could.

I sometimes have dreams about what it would feel like to actually be able to run. To have lungs that wouldn’t give out on me after a few dozen feet. To run carefree, Julie Andrews style through a field of green grass.

Regardless, movement has become sacred to me.

I’ve discovered that the more I move, physically and spiritually, the better I feel and the more momentum I have.

Without it, I would become stuck again and that is the last thing I want.
