Thanks Frank

Thanks Frank

It’s no secret at this point that the color yellow has become a focal point for me, and well anyone who knows me.

On my last trip to California, my Aunt and I were out shopping when she saw a yellow hat in the window of a shop across the way from where we were. Now, every good story starts with a girl peering through the window of a shop, enamored with something pretty.

Of course, it was yellow and it was only fair that it be placed atop my head and deemed worthy or unworthy of coming home with me.

As we entered the small shop, I was greeted by the familiarity of products made by those with souls like mine, those who are born to be makers, creators, and designers. No matter where I am, I find the things made by these people because they exist and shine differently.

I wandered through the shop, but touched everything except the hat.

The jolly proprietor of this fine establishment was Frank, and Frank was the kind of person you just want to hug. He offered me witty banter, the best of sales tactics and flattery, and honestly just seemed more genuine than the great big beard growing on his face, if that was even possible. He also demonstrated his spot-on Irish accent that he nailed despite being born and raised in Petaluma.

As I finally found the courage to grab the hat and try it on, Frank watched me with curiosity. He must have been thinking to himself, I put that hat out weeks ago and this broad is the first to even pick it up. Who in the world is she?

Well Frank, if you only knew the girl behind the yellow door and the journey that placed her in your shop on this 10th day of November in the year 2022.

I stood in the mirror as I have so often, deciding on what was right for me and the object of question today was the yellow hat.

Frank stared at me for a few minutes, then said, “Yellow is a power color. Not many people can pull it off. If you can pull it off, you’re a boss, and that my friend is a boss hat. You are a boss.”

Dear Frank, if only you knew you would become the subject of a blog post for giving that speech.

The yellow hat got to see my favorite vineyard that weekend, and will now become part of this journey of yellow things, all of which guide me to joy and light in this life.

All I have to say is thanks Frank. Five minutes with you and I found the courage to be the girl who wears the yellow hat.
